  • 2007 - 2008

    Client: Banyan Utilities Pte Ltd.
    CoGeneration Facility, Jurong Island Singapore

EPC: Capital Turbines Engineering & Construction

    • Boilers & HRSG Unit

    • Kawasaki Turbine

    Project: Construction

Banyan Utilities Cogeneration Facility, Jurong Island, Singapore

Job Description: Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor, Completions Manager, Commissioning Supervisor, Document Control

Objective: Installation of Kawasaki GT, HRSG unit and all related plumbing and electriacl works, commissioning, documentation turnover and client sign off.

I was placed into the Banyan Utilities project  while completing the Natural Fuel Bio Diesel turnover package. I took on the roles of Electrical Supervisor, Completions Manager and Document Controller. As more and more team members left for other projects and other duties my work incresed to what seems now to have been a dozen other roles.

Phase 2 called for the installation of a Kawasaki Turbine, HRSG package and all the final related plumbing and electrical connections. The start-up date was achieved after many external struggles and the units were commissioned. I was charged with putting together and turning over all of the completions package documentation and drawing pakages to the client for sign off. I then stayed on for a few more months to resolve any and all punchlist issues that were ongoing that plagued the plant.  It was a good project and one that should have not been so challenging given its size. In the end however, I really enjoyed the work I had done and had learned a lot over the course of it's completion. There were many things we could all have done differently, but that is how you learn..............

    • Cables Being Pulled

    Project: Construction

NFL Bio Diesel Facility, Jurong Island, Singapore

The  Natural Fuel facility on Jurong Island is comprised of three 200,000 mta biodiesel trains and three 20,000 mta glycerine refining circuits.

    • Glycerine Trains Being Erected

    • Documentation Turnover To Client

Job Description: Instrumentation Supervisor, Field Engineer, Facilities Support, IT, Documentation Control, Completions Manager

Objectives:  CTEC was awarded the full electrical and instrumentation wiring contract of the tree Bio Diesel and three Glycerine modules. The works expanded to include heat tracing, lighting and other works as they were called for.

After reapeated calls for more manpower from the project manager I was sent to Singapore from Georgia. As the second person from CTEC on board the project I was part of the engineering team as Instrumentation Manager. My responsibilities were to observe our electrical contractor and there design team and to report progress.  It became painfully obvious early on that there was a lack of supervisory skills and engineering staff amongst our sub. CTEC proceeded to take a larger role in the engineering and supervision of our sub contractor.

Once more CTEC employed staff arrived I stayed with the engineering group to finish the termination schedules which I had started, as there were no point to point schedules in place for our terminators.  All the while keeping up my duties as Instrumentation Supervisor. In general I was in charge of overseeing the calibration team. Verifying what was on site, when was it needed in the field, getting it calibrated, installed and terminated and reporting the progress as such. Also tasked with the punch list completions and all electrical documentaion for final turnover to the client for sign off.

The operations and maintenance teams combined for a total of around 40 people on a rotating schedule 24/7.

Job Description: Operations Supervisor / E&I Maintenance Supervisor

    Objectives : Operations & Maintenance

My task was to help put together and construct working operations and maintenance teams. This involved collecting all the relevant materials and documentation and writing the procedures to make the work flow easier to comprehend and implement. The objective was to get the teams to think proactively and not just reactive. After many struggles with the old mentality and old ways of doing things, the teams have really pulled together into functioning units that are able to maintain and cope with just about any situation.
